I completed a BSc Honours degree in Dietetics through the NWU and a Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Dietetics through the University of Pretoria.
Most of my experience was gained in the Corporate Sector where I worked for over 25 years. I therefore fully understand the challenges the working environment has on stress management and daily food and lifestyle choices.
Even though I have knowledge of the diet related diseases, I have a special interest in disease of lifestyle such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity, and also gut health, childhood and geriatric nutrition.
I completed an Introductory Course in Functional Nutrition and apply these principles in my practice.
Functional Nutrition addresses the underlying causes of disease engaging both patient and dietitian in a partnership approach.
By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus to a more patient-centered approach I address the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. It is of vital importance to me, to spend quality time with patients, listening to their histories and looking at the how various interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors can influence long-term health. In this way each individual is supported in an unique way by focusing on health and wellness.
